Havan setup
A standard havan or puja setup brings together a few core pieces: a havan kund, dry mango-wood samidha, and a samagri mix of herbs, resins, grains, and rice. Having each item ready before the ceremony keeps the setup complete.
Use this list as a checklist before you begin. Each group below explains what it includes and how the pieces fit into the setup.
Havan kund and samidha
Choose a havan kund in copper or clay. Pair it with dry mango-wood samidha, the sticks used to build the fire for the havan.
Samagri mix
The havan samagri mix includes dried herbal roots and leaves, resins such as guggul and loban, and grains. Keep each ingredient separate until you are ready to combine them.
Black or white sesame (til), barley (jau), and rice (akshat) complete the mix.
Before the ceremony
Work through the checklist in order so every item is ready when the havan begins.
Set the copper or clay kund on a clean, stable surface.
Lay out the dry mango-wood samidha beside the kund.
Measure the herbs, resins, guggul, loban, til, jau, and akshat into separate containers.
Mix the samagri and confirm every listed item is present before starting.
